Hope everyone is having a happy weekend!
I hope you enjoyed reading about Ryan in my last newsletter. I’m so impressed with everything that he’s done and hope that the interview gave you insight into the world of a celebrity hair stylist.
I’m currently at home watching football. This is a rare Sunday at home before I head back out on the road for Week 8 of the season. It’s weeks like this that remind me how thankful I am for people like Jillian Gregory.
Jillian is an incredibly talented celebrity makeup artist who was born and raised in LA. She started her successful career by assisting world-renowned artists such asas Pati Dubroff, Georgie Eisdell, and Molly Stern. Now, she's worked on talent such as Ali Larter, KaDee Strickland, and Gwyneth Paltrow. In addition to her styling, Jillian also does makeup tutorials for Honest Beauty.
Jillian has taught me so much about taking care of my skin—which is especially important when you travel on a plane as much as I do! She’s introduced me to so many helpful makeup and skincare tricks and anyone should feel incredibly lucky to work with her.
Erin Andrews: What does the day to day of being a celebrity makeup artist look like?
Jillian Gregory: When I’m working with Erin every day looks different especially during football season. We travel so much so most days normally involve an airplane and a hotel. Sometimes it feels very glamorous, sometimes not so much LOL. Typically on a game day we like to get Erin ready at the stadium a few hours before the game so she’s camera ready and I stay with her throughout the whole game so I can touch her up before her hits. I’m so lucky to travel the country with her going to all these amazing games with the best seat in the house!
EA: Where did your love for makeup/skin care come from?
JG: My love of makeup definitely came from my Grandma. I thought she was so glamorous when I was a little girl. She was always touching up her lipstick and had the most extravagant outfits on. I thought she was the chicest! As I got older my love of makeup grew because of how much confidence it gave me. Hey, if a little mascara can perk up your mood and make you walk into a room with a little more swag, why not?
EA: Yes, I totally agree! We can always use a little confidence-boost!
So, we both travel A LOT. What are some of your favorite tips and tricks to keeping our skin looking great?
JG: Your skin looks so amazing because you take such good care of it! You could have the most beautiful makeup on, but it won’t look good unless your skin is awesome. I love it because you’re a really great student when it comes to listening to all my recommendations skincare-wise.
EA: Aw, thank you Jillian! It’s all because I’ve learned from the very best!
Do you have favorite products?
You know all of these very well, but I love iS Clincal’s face wash and active serum. I also love all the products from Augustinus Bader—especially the rich cream!
EA: Yes and because of you I’m also so obsessed with the Lux unfiltered Bronzing face drops.
JG: Yes! They give you the most natural glow and tan. Everyone knows everyone looks better with a little tan!
EA: So true!
What is your personal go-to skincare routine for the mornings and evenings?
JG: My skin care routine is pretty similar to yours. I travel with so many skin care products, so I’m always being stopped at airport security ha!
I love IS clinical warm honey cleanser and the Barbara Sturm facial scrub to exfoliate my skin. Then I use the IS clinical active serum, Shani Darden eye cream, and the Augustinus Bader rich cream.
I also try to make sure to get a facial once a month and drink a ton of water. My most honest beauty confession is I get a baby amount of botox and under eye filler from Dr. Danielpour in LA—he’s the absolute best!
EA: What is the most difficult part about your job?
The most difficult part of my job is all the travel. Eating healthy and working out is tough when you are going from hotel to hotel, city to city, climate to climate. The past three years we’ve been gone on Christmas and Thanksgiving, but our football crew has turned into a little family so I will be forever grateful for the job and all the incredible people I’ve met and get to work with every day. Working for you and Fox Sports has truly been one of the best experiences of my life!
JG: Omg stop, working with you has been such a dream and I’m so thankful to have you on my team!
What was the “I’ve made it” moment for you in your career?
JG: My “wow I made it” moment was definitely at the Super Bowl in Miami. I was on the field while you were doing your first hit as the players were running on the field. That was a “this is really—insert a cuss word—awesome moment.”
