I hope you’ve had a great week and are excited for the weekend—I know I am! This weekend I’m really looking forward to relaxing and spending some quality time with my dog Howie.
I have always been a huge animal lover. I grew up with golden retrievers and so did my mom, so we’ve always been a big golden retriever family (you of course all know Howie!) My first golden retriever was named Ashley, our second was a rescue named Emie and our third was named Kodak.
Before we adopted Howie we were able visit the breeder and meet his mom. This is our first dog together so it was really nice to be able to meet the breeder and so they can check us out as dog parents. Because we established that relationship, we knew the day he was going to be born and received an email right away. One of the best parts was there were cameras set up in the puppy room, so we were always constantly checking in on the puppies throughout the day.
We were truly infatuated with him the day he was born. We were able to finally take him home in May of 2017 and he’s been our baby ever since. Somehow my mom was able to trace Howie’s bloodline back to the dogs we had growing up, so we truly do have one big golden retriever family!
As you know from one of my previous newsletters, Howie’s middle name is David Oritiz, one of my favorite baseball players of all time. Howie’s first name however was inspired by a golden retriever instagram account we followed before we adopted him called “Howard the Golden Retriever” and thought it was so hilarious and had to do it too. I love people-names for dogs.
Maybe his name helps, but Howie is truly human. Thanks to our housekeeper, he understands both Spanish and English and is so so smart, but also incredibly hilarious. He’s very needy, so every time Jarret and I are hugging, he runs right up to us and needs to be in the middle. He just loves affection.
He also hates my suitcase. It breaks my heart because he gets very depressed when I start packing for a trip and won’t even come near me! It makes me so sad haha.
What are your dog’s names? Would love to see all you favorite pictures of your pups, I truly can’t get enough!
Until next time,
