Hey all, I hope your week is going well and that you have been staying safe and healthy as we head into the holidays.
As you all probably know by now, I travel A LOT. Almost too much sometimes. Because we are all doing a lot of travel this week as we start to head home for the holidays I would love to give you some of my favorite tips and tricks to navigating one of my (many) second homes—the Dallas Fort-Worth airport.
I’m at DFW at least once a week. One of my favorite, most surprising, parts of this airport is the Grand Hyatt hotel that’s conveniently attached. We’ve stayed there so much that the staff knows us and always has the best, most friendly service.
Food and Drink
I always love stopping at the Dallas Cowboys Club which is usually around the gates that I fly out of. It’s perfect for a quick burger, beer, glass of wine, and (I know it sounds psycho) breakfast. Sometimes I’m running late in the morning and an airport breakfast can be just what you need.
One time, I was stuck at DFW for almost four hours during a massive tornado warning after a playoff game a few years ago. The airport basically got shut down because of the storm and we all just hunkered down at this nice steak restaurant for a meal and some drinks. I have no idea if it’s still open (if someone remembers this, please let me know in the comments!), but it was a really nice place to kill a few hours if you’re unfortunate enough to be delayed or stuck at the airport for a few hours.
If you are severely hungover and need a sausage biscuit there is always McDonalds, an airport staple for I’m sure many of you. I also always try to hit up Einstein Bros for a bagel and Dunkin’ Donuts as well.
Shopping
If any of you need to do last-minute shopping, DFW can really save the day. I have definitely been at DFW late at night on Christmas Eve when I still needed a few gifts (I know, I know, nobody’s perfect haha!) There are some great stores like Hugo Boss and a few others that have saved my husband and I last-minute on numerous occasions, so don’t knock off airport shopping! They can really save the day.
Tips and Trips
TSA PreCheck and Clear are my holy-grails for any and all airports. Unfortunately it’s hard to find Clear at this airport, but PreCheck always saves my life when I’m running late (and not just late-late—sometimes I’ve arrived when my flight has already boarded and still somehow make my flight!)
I also unfortunately have status with almost all the airlines because of how much I travel so I frequent the airport lounges from time-to-time as well.
Do you fly in and out of DFW as well? What are your favorite airport spots? Let me know where you’re traveling this holiday season!
Until next time,
Erin
