I hope you’re all having a great week so far! As I continue my off-season and watch the weather continue to get better and better as we head through the Spring, the thought of spending more time outside at the beach, backyard parties, and dinners on the patio is making me excited. As most of you know, I’m a red wine type of girl…which is great for, well just about every occasion lol! But as the days get longer and the invitation to sip on something refreshing grows, wine tends to have the opposite effect.
Even if you’re sipping on a chilled white, the sugar alone takes me over the edge. For the longest time I would fight through it and stay true to my wine loving ways UNTIL I got on the tequila train. A few weeks ago, when Jarret and I were in Montana we felt adventurers and decided to ditch our usual beer/wine for tequila. We were at one of our favorite bars and were trying to figure out a fun drink that I could sip on for a while that wasn’t sweet. I can NOT handle drinks that are too sweet! The taste, the stomachache that you know is around the corner, the sugar – it’s all a little too much for me.
Thanks to some help from our waitress, we found it, my new favorite cocktail: RANCH WATER! I know that some of you may be saying, “You just found out about Ranch Water??” but I’m beyond happy to finally arrive, and it has changed my life. The bar we went to made theirs with Blanco tequila, Mezcal tequila (double the tequila, double the fun), soda water, lime, a little agave and jalapeno. We ended up ordering the next one without agave…still too sweet! But it was so refreshing!
For those (like me) who aren’t as familiar with Ranch Water or where this magical beverage came from, the cocktail is rumored to be the brainchild of a rancher in West Texas, who invented it about sixty years ago. In its current form, this refreshing drink is made with just three ingredients—tequila, plenty of fresh lime juice, and carbonated water.
As we head into warmer weather, I’m begging anyone and everyone to send me their favorite NON-SWEET Ranch Water recipes for me (and my friends, but mostly me) to try out. The spicier, lighter and more refreshing the better!
Drop your go to Ranch Water recipe in the comments! If there are any other tequila or mezcal based drinks that you love, I wouldn’t mind those either. Even if it’s not tequila-related, what are your go to drinks when the weather is perfect?
Until next time,
